Several months ago, a dear friend introduced me to Mountain Movers during a family crisis. After speaking with Melissa for the first time, I felt the Lord calling me into mentorship, knowing my heart needed deep healing. Having been married for 28 years and soon to be an empty nester, I realized that my life had revolved around ensuring our family thrived according to Christian values. 

This was especially important to me since I didn’t grow up in a Christian home. After my parents divorced when I was 18, I vowed to have a great career and make good money in case my husband ever left me like my dad left us. Despite the security my marriage provided, unresolved childhood issues left me with many unhealthy coping mechanisms.

Being in the mentorship program has given me a deeper understanding of the spiritual devastation that came from being exposed to pornography at the age of five. Growing up in an abusive home further distorted my view of true love. This led to a cascade of wrong choices fueled by self-hatred and disrespect for my own body, rippling out into fornication, an eating disorder, and co-dependency. 

The co-dependency became even more apparent recently when I decided to get a dog after my last child left for college in the fall. Before that, it manifested through food, shopping, and my kids.

As a Christian in a religious church, I pursued works that helped me cope with my lack of identity in Christ. I became involved in every area of volunteership I could, striving to pursue the Lord through busyness, which only left me weary and even more empty. I sought the gifts of the Spirit in prophetic circles, but I wasn’t pursuing the heart of Jesus Christ. 

The Lord began to stir in my heart, revealing that something was still missing, and I began to let go of the striving. I left the ministry circles, prophetic groups, and even the megachurch I attended with my family. I started to recognize that compromising with the world produced no accountability and no fruit in my walk or my family’s. 

My life has been absolutely transformed through mentorship with Melissa. I am receiving the love, support, and accountability that are essential to a healthy discipleship process. Melissa continually points me toward Christ and the faithful truths of His Word. 

Each week brings new understanding anchored in the Word of God. There’s no room for fluff, nor is the process cookie-cutter or one-size-fits-all. Melissa’s guidance and direction continue to help me identify the roots of grief and hurt that I have carried all my life, stemming from rejection. I am being delivered from many generational patterns of self-sabotage, allowing me to receive the healing and freedom I need to make much-desired changes in my career. 

Our prayer time together is truly anointed. Between mentorship and time spent with the Lord, God continues to deliver me from wrong mindsets and heal me from the inside out. Over the past few months, I have been able to come off of two medications: one for insomnia and another for a persistently elevated heart rhythm, stemming from the constant state of fight or flight throughout my 52 years.

I’m also being healed and delivered from co-dependency, insecurity, passivity, and especially people-pleasing, which led to compromising with the world. Since joining the program, I feel more supported than ever before. My weekly check-ins with Melissa, in between our time together, have been incredibly special to me during this season. Through mentorship, I’m learning how to operate out of my spirit rather than my soul. I’m finally receiving the healing my soul has been craving all of my life, and in doing so, discovering His true will for my life. 

I’m so grateful for this ministry and for the opportunity to walk with other believers who are like-minded in Christ. Attending the live calls is yet another way of receiving discipleship and community with other women who no longer want to compromise.
